Supersport thrash Cosmos

Supersport United moved up to fourth position on the PSL log when they punished Jomo Cosmos 4-1 at the Rand Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result has kept Cosmos in the relegation zone with only two matches to play. The match turned out to be one-sided as United made their intentions clear from the beginning.

Lungisani Ndlela almost scored in the 13th minute to put United ahead, but Cosmos goalkeeper Avril Phali made a superb save to deny the him.

However, United went ahead ten minutes later when skipper Siboniso Gaxa found Ndlela who in turn set-up young Tony Tsabedze and the 20-year-old striker made no mistake.

Supersport doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Gaxa played a superb ball to find Daine Klate, who crossed for Cavann Sibeko to slot home.

Cosmos created their first real chance of the match three minutes before the break, but Russell Mwafulirwa wasted the opportunity.

The second half started with both sides playing flowing football as Cosmos pushed more players forward in search of goals.

However, it was Supersport who continued to find the back of the net and they extended their lead in the 60th minute when Tsabedze found Richard Rantjie inside the area and the winger made no mistake to make the score 3-0.

Rantjie had an opportunity to make it 4-0 six minutes later, but he dragged his effort wide of goal.

Substitute Ishmael Maluleke pulled one back for Cosmos from a superb free kick.

Abram Raselemane finalised the 4-1 scoreline in the 89th minute when he latched on to a superb pass from Tsabedze to beat Phali once again.

Although Cosmos are only fourth from bottom with 28 points from 28 games, the other three teams all have a game in hand and are only two points below them in the log. – Sapa
