Gauteng’s superintendent-general James Maseko leaves the Department of Education to pursue a career in the private sector.
JULIA GREY reports
THE resignation of superintendent-general James Maseko from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) this month is as a result of his being ”poached” by corporate headhunters.
So says departmental representative Rudy Matjokana, who says Maseko has ”gone to pursue other interests”, and that his departure was not preceded by ”squabbles or problems” in the department.
Maseko has been appointed managing director of the Damelin Education Group, a part of Education Investment Corporation (Educor).
Matjokana concedes that the respected educationalist’s departure is a setback for the department, but says that others in the provincial office are ”capable of taking the department forward”.
Maseko was with the department from the very beginning of the transformation process, and will have vacated his office by the end of January. Acting director general Mallele Petje will temporarily fill Maseko’s post until a permanent replacement is found, hopefully by the end of May at the latest, says Matjokana.
