A Northern Province teacher has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old pupil in the school staff room on Monday.
Police were also investigating whether Nomoro Johannes Moriri, 39, had been raping the girl since January, and buying her silence with R10 each time, said Inspector Matjokotja Masenya on Wednesday.
Moriri is a teacher at Mahlashi Primary School in Ga-Mahlashi village, near Burgersfort. Masenya said one of Moriri’s colleagues allegedly saw him raping the girl, and raised the alarm.
In the Praktiseer District Court on Wednesday, Moriri was not asked to plead to a rape charge. He could not raise bail of R5 000, and was remanded to April 17 for further police investigation.
A Pietersburg high school teacher was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl after offering her a lift to church on Sunday. Dibate Charles Mabotha, 36, of Rainbow Park in Pietersburg, allegedly raped the girl at Ga-Maila village. He is a teacher at Molesha-Tlou High School in Ga-Maila. Mabotha appeared briefly in the Sekhukhune District Court on Tuesday and his case was postponed until March 7 for a bail application.
