Names of parcel blast victims released

The names of the three people killed when a parcel exploded outside a house in Grahamstown this week were released on Wednesday.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said the victims were Justin Martin (52), Johannes Kortrooi (58) and five-year-old Leonardo Lottering, who died in hospital on Tuesday.

”Our experts are at the scene collecting evidence to establish what kind of device this is,” said Govender.

”Two inquest dockets have been opened for investigation as well as a case under the Explosives Act”.

The explosion occurred on Monday around 10am outside a house in Ghost Town, Grahamstown.

Govender said police found two people already dead at the scene and two injured children. The victims were not related.

She said it was still unclear how the explosive device got there and warned the public to stay from suspicious-looking parcels. -Sapa
