Supersport held in action-packed draw

Action aplenty, goals in abundance and controversial incidents were the features of the 2-2 Premier League draw between Supersport United and Santos at the Loftus stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night.

It was ultimately a result that will provide new Santos coach Roger de Sa with a great deal more satisfaction than it will to a disappointed Supersport and their handful of supporters.

On two visits to Gauteng in their opening games of the new PSL season, unheralded Santos have new secured a creditable four points after previously upsetting Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

And it could have been more impressive had Santos not conceded a dubious penalty from which Ricardo Katza equalised in the 42nd minute after Lebohang Kukame had opened the score for the Cape Town team with a well-placed header in the 27th minute.

If Santos were unlucky to concede a penalty in the first half, they were

somewhat fortunate not to give away a second in the second period when Robert Nauseb handballed in the 66th minute and the only question was whether he had done so intentionally.

Earlier, Supersport had taken a 2-1 lead from a snap, close-range shot by Abram Raselemane in the 51st minute and substitute Romano Scott equalised for Santos with virtually his first kick of he game in the 58th minute.

And the draw was a fair enough reflection of the see-sawing proceedings, but it needed only a look at the glum expression on the face of title-chasing Supersport coach Pitso Mosimane to realise which team was happier with their point. – Sapa
