Ajax finish bottom of CAF group

Ajax Cape Town finished bottom of group A in the CAF Championship League when they were beaten 3-0 by Raja Casablanca in a game played at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday night.

Raja led 2-0 at the interval.

Raja opened the score in the sixth minute when a poor clearance saw the ball go to the right where Zemmama Merovane crossed the ball and Fofana Abooulkari easily netted, giving Moeneeb Josephs no chance.

Ajax attacked more often, but Raja were prepared to soak up the pressure. In the 21st minute, Shane Poggenpoel put over a good cross from a free kick and a Cyrille Kitambala header was well saved by goalkeeper Chadili Mustapha. Three minutes later, Love Edgard was booked for a deliberate hand ball by referee Lim Kee Chong.

Raja were always dangerous on the attack, and in the 34th minute the ball went upfield to Iajour Mouhssine but Josephs ran out of his goal just in time to clear.

The visitors went further ahead in the 43rd minute when Dadudi Hassan passed to Alloudi Soufiane, who scored. The later was booked for pulling up his shirt.

Raja came close in the 58th minute when Mouhssine ran down the right flank, cut in and his shot hit the far upright. However, he got his goal in the 60th minute when Josephs was well out of his goal and Mouhssine netted easily. — Sapa
