Cell C and Virgin announced on Wednesday that they had concluded agreements to establish a 50/50 joint venture to create a new player in South Africa’s mobile telephony market.
In terms of the agreements, the joint venture will use the Virgin Mobile brand and operate as an independent service provider on the Cell C network.
The joint venture, which is expected to launch during the first half of 2006, will trade as Virgin Mobile South Africa.
Commenting on the conclusion of the deal, Talaat Laham, Chairman and CEO of Cell C said, ”Cell C constantly seeks to introduce new products and services into the South African market.
”We are pleased to be bringing an international brand of the stature of Virgin Mobile to further enhance competition in South Africa.”
