Nine-man Golden Arrows conceded two goals in referee’s optional time at the end of the match to lose 3-2 to Supersport United in a Premier Soccer League match played at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Sunday afternoon.
Arrows were first to draw blood in this encounter, through Mabhuti Khanyeza in the 10th minute, and he came back to complete his brace in the 33rd minute to give the home side a 2-0 cushion at the break.
The visitors came back strongly in the second stanza and found the back of the net via Daine Klate in the 55th minute to make it 2-1 and set up an intriguing finish.
Arrows had lost Philani Shange to a red card in the 44th minute and then saw Papi Zothwane also given his marching orders on 70 minutes.
United, though, left it very, very late, and just when it seemed they had secured an unlikely point after Koena Mathopa scored in extra time, Addas Ilusa pounced to make it 3-2 in the dying seconds to the disgust of the home fans.
The win was the second for Supersport without Pitso Mosimane, who is apparently on leave.
Stars sink Leopards
Two late strikes gave Silver Stars a deserved 2-0 win over Black Leopards in a hotly contested Premier Soccer League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The first half went goalless and was without much incident as the teams matched each other punch for punch. In the second half, the heat worked against the home team and Stars started controlling the game, especially in midfield.
The first goal came in the 82nd minute when Stars striker Katlego Mashego latched on to a through ball, beautifully controlling the ball before smashing a brilliant left-foot shot past young Leopards goalkeeper Johannes Diale.
Stars coach Owen da Gama made two clever substitutions, bringing on Michael Khaile and Molifi Leape, with the former scoring the clincher three minutes from time with a superbly taken header after a cross from the left.
Celtic throw away lead
Bloemfontein Celtic threw away a precious lead when they drew 3-3 to Santos in a pulsating and dramatic match played at the Seisa Ramabodou Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
The home team led 2-0 at the break after goals by Moses Spandeel and John Maduka.
But the Peoples’ Team hit back well through a brace by Jean-Marc Ithier. Maduka scored Celtic’s third goal and the home team looked set for their fifth of six league victories under new management, but a late goal by Marwaal Bantam earned the Cape Town team a share of the spoils. — Sapa
