Tail-ender frustrates SA

Michael Hussey and tail-ender Stuart Clark frustrated South Africa after lunch on the second day of the second Castle LagerTest at Kingsmead on Saturday, with a last wicket partnership of 42.

Shaun Pollock got rid of Shane Warne, who had played a cameo innings, putting on 36 runs off just 31 balls, and sharing a 56-run eighth-wicket partnership with Hussey. Warne was finally caught in the slips by AB de Villiers shortly after lunch.

Andre Nel added to the two wickets he had taken before lunch when he had Michael Kasprowicz caught by de Villiers for seven, but Hussey and Clark continued to frustrate the South Africans. Hussey, who had batted with much circumspection throughout most of his innings, started taking the attack to the South Africans as he began to run out of partners. He reached his second Test half century off 135 balls in just under three and a half hours.

The Australian innings finally ended when Hussey (75) was given out lbw to Jacques Kallis, who had been brought back into the attack after drinks, and Australia were all out for 369. Clark was not out on 13. – Sapa
