The BMW Z4 coupé is available from this month at European dealers just a year after the first design study was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Prices start at â,¬38 900 (about R335 000) and are between â,¬1 500 and â,¬2 000 cheaper than the convertible, depending on the engine size.
Powered by the magnesium-alloy 3,0-litre six-cylinder engine, the new BMW Z4 3.0si Coupe develops 195/kW265 hp and peak torque of 315 Nm at 2 750rpm.
Like the open-top Z4, the driver can select gears using paddles on the steering wheel and features blip-throttle down changes.
The high-performance Z4 M Coupé comes with a 252/343hp engine catapulting the two-seater from zero to 100kph in five seconds. The top speed is electronically regulated at 250kph.
The M-Version sells for â,¬55 900, including sports chassis and distinctive design elements such as the large air scoops in the valance and two precision lines running along the bonnet. The rear is accentuated by double twin-tailpipes. The sports seats can be ordered in a choice of four nappa leather colours.
