South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius and Natalie du Toit both won double gold at the Visa Paralympic World Cup in Manchester this weekend.
Pistorius won gold in the 100 and 200m during Sunday’s athletics events, while Du Toit smashed two world records in the pool on Saturday.
In the 200m, Pistorius had trouble with his prosthetic legs during the race but still managed to take first place in a time of 24,11 seconds. He added another gold medal in the 100m, winning in a time of 11,87 seconds.
On Saturday, Du Toit improved on her records in the 100m and 50m freestyle. She won gold in the 50m with a time of 29,04 seconds, and then gold in the 100m with a time of 1 01,08 seconds on a day when five world records fell.
”I had to really dig in and I’m delighted with the two records and two golds,” said Du Toit. ”I put a lot of pressure on myself to deliver on the big stages.”
In the other athletics events on Sunday, Teboho Mokgalagadi also claimed gold in the 100m in a time of 13,53 seconds. Countryman Isaac Nhlanhla Mbenenge finished sixth with a personal best of 14,64 seconds.
Mokgalagadi took the silver medal in the 200m, with Mbenenge finishing sixth.
In the women’s shot put, South Africa’s Maria Magdalena van Hoorn finished fifth with a distance of 7,78%, while Deyanne Greyling finished seventh with an effort of 6,89m.
David Roos finished seventh in the men’s high jump. – Sapa
