Mbeki confirms new judicial appointments

South African President Thabo Mbeki has confirmed the appointment of a Supreme Court of Appeal judge, a provincial deputy judge president and two new judges following his acceptance of the recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission.

Mr Justice Mandisa Muriel Lindwelwa Maya has become a Supreme Court of Appeal judge, while Mr Justice Phillip Levinsohn has become deputy judge president in the Natal Provincial Division.

The two news judges are advocate Cynthia Pretorius SC and Advocate Letty Mpho Molopa SC in the Transvaal Provincial Division.

According to presidential spokesperson Mukoni Ratshitanga, the president expressed confidence in the judges’ capabilities to discharge their duties.
