Police not speculating about Centurion bodies

Pretoria police said on Wednesday it is too early to draw conclusions about the discovery of a number of bodies in Centurion, south of the city, as investigations are still underway.

”Task-team members are still investigating the findings of the bodies in the different cases and trying to see if there are any similarities between them, and any patterns,” police spokesperson Superintendent Morne van Wyk said.

Van Wyk said the police will not disclose the number of bodies recently found. This is for operational reasons and because it is difficult to tell which cases are connected.

Some news reports have speculated that a serial killer may be responsible.

”There is no specific place in the Centurion area which police are concentrating on or which people have been warned to avoid,” said Van Wyk. ”The bodies so far have been found in open fields at various places within Centurion.”

Two years ago, four bodies were found dumped in drain pipes in Samrand, Centurion, and were initially speculated to be the work of a serial killer.

It was later found that the bodies were those of a Pretoria Chinese businessman and his family. Two Chinese nationals are currently on trial for the murders, which appear to have resulted from a property deal gone sour. — Sapa
