A miner who was trapped almost 3km underground in Gold Fields’ Kloof mine near Westonaria on the West Rand was rescued on Thursday.
Company spokesperson Willie Jacobsz said the man was brought to the surface just after 1.30pm.
”We have had very good news,” Jacobsz said.
”He has been brought out [of the mine] and has suffered only minor injuries.”
Another miner was killed when rocks fell on him during an earth tremor measuring 3,1 on the Richter scale early on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at the mine’s number two shaft.
Jacobsz said the body of the dead miner has also been brought to the surface.
