There has been a break-in at the African Christian Democratic Party’s offices in the Kwazulu-Natal legislature, party spokesperson Cedric Sokhutu said on Monday.
”Paperwork files have been removed from MPL Joanne Down’s office and there is a possibility that the computer hard drive has been interrogated,” he said.
”It seems that the missing files related to Mrs Downs’ work with the standing committee on public accounts as well as some constituency work files,” he said.
”All sensitive files located in other offices have now been removed to an undisclosed location in order to protect them.”
Sokhutu said the break-in, which happened over the weekend, raised questions about the security of the Pietermaritzburg legislature building.
”It must be noted that all of our other locations are protected by burglar alarms. It is only the office in the legislature building that is unsecured as it falls under provincial legislature security,” he said.
”Investigations revealed the offices were broken into from inside the building, therefore the perpetrators would have gained access through the security situated at the front door, Sokhutu said.
It was only discovered on Monday morning that there had been a forced entry into the ACDP office and police are investigating the matter. – Sapa
