Mike Huckabee, the rock-playing Governor of Arkansas, will pardon Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards for his 1975 reckless driving charge in the American state, the governor’s spokesperson said on Thursday.
“The governor is in the process right now to give a pardon to him,” said Alice Stewart.
“The governor met him a while ago and they discussed this issue, and the governor decided he didn’t want Keith Richards to have a bad impression of Arkansas and would do what he could to clear his record — a kind of goodwill gesture.”
Richards, now 62, was pulled over by police in Arkansas in 1975 after the car he was driving swerved suddenly. Police said at the time they smelled marijuana and briefly sent Richards, Stones bassist Ron Wood and two others to jail.
He mentioned the incident during a Rolling Stones concert in Arkansas in March — which is when it came to the attention of the governor, who plays in a rock band called Capitol Offence. — AFP
