England and Bath flyhalf Olly Barkley was arrested by police using CS (violence controlling) spray after a fight in which a man suffered a broken jaw.
Devon and Cornwall police confirmed on Thursday that the 24-year-old was detained by them along with two other men in the seaside town of Newquay, north Cornwall on the weekend.
”Three men were arrested on suspicion of causing an affray and bailed back to Newquay police station on August 23,” a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall police said.
”CS spray was deployed in order to effect the arrests,” he added.
Police said that the victim suffered head and facial injuries, including a fractured jaw, and added that they were investigating the ”assault and public-order incident”.
Barkley made his England debut in 2001 and played in the two most recent Tests in Australia in June.
He is currently the second-highest points scorer in Bath rugby history. — AFP
