Rescuers trying to save a woman who got stuck in a tree after her house was flooded were hampered by snakes making for their jet ski, the National Sea Rescue Institute said on Thursday.
”There were lots of snakes in the flood waters. They were using the rescue gear and the jetski for floatation,” spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.
He said however that no one was harmed by the snakes.
The woman, who was swept out of her house by raging flood waters on Wednesday night, was among 40 people rescued in Port Elizabeth.
”She was taken to higher ground in town but one of her two dogs refused to be rescued … it was however found around the house on Thursday morning.”
Forecaster Jacqueline Riet from Weather SA told the Mail & Guardian Online
on Thursday that there is a 60% chance of showers over the Eastern Cape and she was expecting snow on the very high ground in the Eastern Cape.
”Most of the country seems clear. Rain is still expected in southern parts of the Free State, the Eastern Cape and Western KwaZulu-Natal.”
Riet said Cape Town was expecting a cold front overnight that would bring a few showers.
”It’s not going to rain the whole day,” she said. – Sapa
