A police director of the South African Police Service (SAPS) who survived a car accident two years ago was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga, police said on Wednesday.
Director Kelly Chilli (41) was knocked down by a car on Monday, Commissioner Afrika Khumalo said in statement.
On December 16 2004 he was involved in a car accident and was hospitalised for six months, said Khumalo.
At 1am on Monday, community members told police that a person had been knocked down at Kwamhlanga near Bronkhorstspruit. On arrival they discovered it was the director.
”We are saddened by his death. He was dedicated to his work. He will be truly missed as a legend,” said Khumalo on behalf of the Mpumalanga police.
On Thursday a memorial service will be held at 10am in the Kwamhlanga legislature. He will be buried on Saturday at 8.30am in Kwamhlanga.
