The Media magazine celebrates Women’s Day in August by hosting the MTN Women in The Media awards. This year, we salute six formidable women in the industry. Our board, after sifting through almost 50 nominations, chose a winner from four finalists, a rising star under the age of 30, and a lifetime achiever.
Following intense debate, The Media‘s board unanimously selected Mail & Guardian editor Ferial Haffajee as the overall winner, describing her as a “thought-leader” in her field. Our other finalists, Carte Blanche co-anchor Ruda Landman, The Star photographer Neo Ntsoma and freelance journalist Sue Valentine, were each commended for their exceptional contributions to the media landscape.
AM Live and Interface presenter Nikiwe Bikitsha was chosen as the rising star for her rising status at such a young age while media research veteran Barbara Cooke is honoured as the lifetime achiever. She has shown us that it is never too late to take on new challenges.
