The strike at Sun International continued on Tuesday after failed dispute talks with the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers’ Union (Saccawu) over the weekend.
Some ”positive progress” was made in the discussions with Saccawu senior officials and shop stewards, Sun International said in a statement.
Workers downed tools at the end of last month and are still on strike on a no-work, no-pay basis at the Boardwalk, Carousel, Carnival City, Fish River Sun, Flamingo, Morula, Meropa, Naledi, Sun City and the Wild Coast Sun.
”The other Sun International properties are not affected,” the group said in the statement.
The stalled wage negotiations began five months ago. Saccawu is asking for a 10% increase; that union members below the rank of department head be included in bargaining units; and increased pay on Sundays and public holidays.
It has rejected a Sun International offer of an 8% increase subject to acceptance of its position on the bargaining unit and hours of work in a two-year agreement.
The company has since revised its offer to 6,5%. – Sapa
