Pernod to launch world’s most expensive champagne

French wines and spirits group Pernod Ricard said on Tuesday it would launch what it said would be the world’s most expensive champagne.

”It will cost around €1 000 ($1 276) a bottle. We won’t do many cases and won’t be offering it here,” chairperson Patrick Ricard told the company’s annual shareholders meeting.

He was responding to a shareholder’s question about what was Pernod’s strategy in the face of larger luxury groups such as LVMH, the world’s leading champagne house with brands such as Moëtet Chandon and Krug. – Reuters
