Third Tshwane city councillor shot

A third Tshwane city councillor has been shot, the Citizen newspaper reported on Thursday .

William Mahlangu (42) a member of the Tshwane mayoral committee responsible for finance, was the latest victim.

He was shot and wounded in a hijacking at Mabopane’s Block B section, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday night.

Mahlangu was returning from a ward committee meeting at about 9pm when he was shot in the right arm. The bullet lodged in his chest.

The hijackers stole his shoes before driving away in his car.

He was taken to the George Mukhari hospital where his condition was described as stable after the bullet was removed from his chest.

Two Tshwane city councillors were shot dead in Soshanguve earlier this year.

Police spokesperson Bontle Diphoko said Mahlangu’s black Volkswagen 4X4 was found traced to Hebron, thanks to a tracking device.

Mayor Gwen Ramakgopa visited Mahlangu in hospital and condemned the shooting.

The Democratic Alliance in the city said Mahlangu was a valued member of the mayoral committee, and wished him a speedy recovery. – Sapa
