Man opens fire on ex-wife at church

A 35-year-old Muizenberg woman was wounded in the stomach on Sunday morning when her ex-husband shot her outside a church, Western Cape police said.

Inspector Bernadine Steyn said the woman was shot in the parking lot of the church in Marina da Gama just before 10am.

The woman and two friends had parked outside in Eastlake Drive when the woman’s ex-husband grabbed her arm and demanded to speak to her. When she resisted, he took out a firearm, shot her, then turned the firearm on himself, but he only slightly wounded himself on the side of the head. He fled and was still at large on Sunday afternoon.

Police confiscated a licensed revolver on the scene.

Steyn said the woman was taken to a local hospital where she was in a stable condition. – Sapa
