Parreira gets Bafana working

Having acquired his work permit on Monday to resume his duties as Bafana Bafana coach, Carlos Parreira set about organising a friendly game for his team in March ahead of an African Nations Cup qualifier against Chad.

Premier Soccer League CEO Trevor Phillips announced that the League would modify its fixtures so that Parreira could fit in a game on March 13 — probably in Johannesburg against Swaziland.

”We are due to play Absa Cup games that week,” said Phillips, ”but as soon as I get some idea from the national coach which players he will require, I’ll modify the fixtures so that clubs who are represented in the national squad are not affected by the international taking place”.

Meanwhile, the Department of Home Affairs announced that technicalities had been speeded up in order to grant Parreira his work permit ‒- but the South African Football Association would not escape unscathed for their tardiness in procuring the documentation.

Safa will be required to pay a R20 000 fine to the Home Affairs Department — a drop in the ocean compared to Parreira’s R1,8-million contract.
