After a string of four Castle Premiership defeats, AmaZulu put together their best performance to beat Silver Stars 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The score was 0-0 at the interval.
AmaZulu took to the field without John Moshoue who is injured. Last Wednesday AmaZulu fired a number of experienced players including international goalkeeper Komoka Camara (from Guinea) and captain Siphiwe Sgwili because of ill discipline.
Tshepo Motsoeneng replaced Kamoko and Abram Molekoa replaced Sgwili.
The home side squandered more than a half a dozen scoring chances in the first half.
The main culprit was Bulelani Matroos, who missed at least four scoring chances.
At the beginning of the second half Stars pulled out Edward Williams and introduced Daniel ”Sailor” Tshabalala. They also replaced Mpho Maleka and Jomo Moatlhaping with Keketso Mmothong and Thuso Phala.
The only goal of the match came in the 61st minute through Sibusiso Ntuli who produced a thunder shot outside the penalty box.
In 75th minute Ntuli was unlucky to register a brace when his shot was cleared by William Jackson.
Towards the end of the game AmaZulu introduced Teboho Tsiu, Dennis Lota for Lucky Mzizi and Ntuli.
Referee Jonas Nhlapho booked Sipho Mchabe for tackling Ntuli and Stars’ goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini for tackling Tsiu. – Sapa
