US citizen stabbed to death in Hermanus

A 60-year-old man who was stabbed to death and his 56-year-old wife who was tied up and robbed in their Hermanus home are United States citizens, Western Cape police said on Friday.

”They are American … They [had been] here since December, and were due to leave in April,” said Captain Elliot Sinyangana.

Sinyangana said the couple, Perry and Sally-Ann Page, spent their time between their home in the US and South Africa.

The couple were attacked in their Main road home by four men at about 9pm on Wednesday.

Perry Page was stabbed in the neck and chest and his wife was tied up with a rope.

The attackers, all in their early 20s, stole Sally-Ann Page’s purse with cash, a cellphone, a camera and a bank card. They demanded the pin code for the bank card and fled in a hired Mercedes-Benz.

The car was later found abandoned at a dumping site near Zwelihle.

Four men were arrested about an hour after the attack on murder and robbery charges.

Sinyangana said if the men were charged, they would appear in the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court on Monday. — Sapa
