Virgin to start flights to Kenya in June

Virgin Atlantic said on Monday it will begin offering daily flights to Nairobi from London Heathrow in June.

Virgin chairperson Richard Branson told reporters in Nairobi the airline expected to carry about 100 000 passengers to Kenya in the first year.

”If it is successful we hope to go up to two planes a day,” he said.

He added that he hoped the airline would also carry Kenyan agricultural exports worth about $100-million annually.

The other airlines that fly the Heathrow-Nairobi route are Kenya Airways and British Airways.

Branson said Virgin would have a code-sharing agreement with Kenya Airways. — Reuters
