Baby dies in Secunda shack bombing

A father was arrested for allegedly bombing a shack and killing his two-year-old son in Embalenhle in Secunda, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.

Inspector Thabiso Ncongwane said the baby had been sleeping along with his mother and her partner when their shack was bombed with mining explosives in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Ncongwane said the father had earlier threatened his son’s mother as he was due to appear in court on Friday over child maintenance.

”He told the woman that she would never receive more money from him and told her that something bad would happen to her,” said Ncongwane.

The man was arrested later on Saturday after he was linked to footprints found at the crime scene. The baby’s mother and her partner sustained serious burn injuries and were taken to the Evander hospital in Secunda. — Sapa
