Western Cape police are investigating charges of rape and abduction after a five-year-old girl who had been reported missing in the Karoo, was found alive, South African Broadcasting Corporation news reported on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Potje said that he was relieved that the girl had been found alive.
He said the child had knocked on her parents door on Monday night after about 40 people embarked on a search for her.
”A couple phoned police saying she had knocked on their door. She was then taken to hospital. We suspect that she was raped and we are investigating rape and abduction charges,” said Potje.
Police are looking for a man believed to be in 40s who is known to the family. – Sapa
