About a dozen protesters gathered outside the Johannesburg High Court on Friday to protest against how rape victims are treated by the law.
Some protesters held placards and had their mouths taped shut, while others chained themselves to the court fence.
”Reporting rape equals being raped again in court,” read one placard.
Sexual violence laws in South Africa are ”archaic and unjust”, said Training and the public awareness manager of People Opposing Women Abuse, Carrie Shelver.
Delays in court for rape survivors meant ”the healing process is delayed”.
Mandla Shangweni, who was walking passed the protest, said: ”Men have a big role to play. We need to teach our fellow brothers to act in a responsible way.” — Sapa
