Bogus cops arrested in Kempton Park

Two bogus policemen wearing police-issue bullet-proof vests and with toy guns in their holsters were arrested in Kempton Park on the East Rand on Friday, police said.

Captain Jethro Mtshali said members of the Kempton Park crime-prevention unit were on patrol when they spotted two men running near the Kemstar Mall at about 2am.

They followed the men and asked them why they were running as the two tried to get into an unmarked Volkswagen Golf.

The men told the police they were ”busy investigating a domestic violence case”.

This raised the real officers’ suspicion and they asked the men to produce their identification, which they failed to do.

They were arrested and were due to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges for impersonating a police officer. — Sapa
