Two senior University of Fort Hare academics have been suspended after an apparent examination bungle, Dispatch Online reported on Thursday.
They are Professor John Hendricks, dean of social sciences and humanities, and school of social sciences director Fhulu Nekhwevha.
University spokesperson Thamie Mgwigwi confirmed the two had been put on precautionary suspension after problems with the first-year psychology mid-year examinations at the Alice campus.
These related to the marking of exam papers, and 325 students were affected.
”It was discovered when there was an irregular number of students who had failed the said course.”
Mgwigwi said the psychology exam paper was now being re-marked.
”The precautionary suspension [is] to investigate the whole matter of the psychology June exams,” Mgwigwi said.
”Since they are suspended as a precautionary suspension they are suspended with full pay.”
He added that no disciplinary hearing had been held as yet as the matter was still being investigated. — Sapa
