Loots Bosman to face disciplinary hearing

Proteas opening batsman Loots Bosman is to face a disciplinary hearing following comments he allegedly made about being excluded from the Twenty20 World Championship team because of a back injury.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Wednesday that Bosman will appear before CSA disciplinary commissioner Michael Kuper SC to face charges of breaching CSA’s rules and code of conduct.

Beeld reported Loots as saying that the findings of the medical team that made the decision about his injury were ”slightly suspicious”.

He said one specialist told him he could play in the tournament, while CSA’s specialist told him he would have to rest for six weeks because of the injury.

”I am sick of lies,” Bosman was reported saying.

”I am very, very disappointed …[South African cricket coach] Mickey [Arthur] tells too many lies.”

Bosman said his physiotherapist, Alda Myburgh, who saw him last week, said he was fine.

According to the Beeld article, Arthur said Bosman’s allegations were ”absolute nonsense” and ”shocking”.

He said all procedures that led to Bosman’s exclusion on medical grounds were carried out ”by the book”.

CSA said in a statement on Wednesday that Bosman faces charges of ”unbecoming or detrimental conduct that could bring them, the board or the game of cricket into disrepute”.

Bosman also faces charges of making a public comment that was detrimental to the game of cricket or critical of the selection of any team for any regulated match, said the association. — Sapa
