Thirteen-year-old arrested for armed robbery

A 13-year-old teenager and a 23-year-old man, described by police as the teenager’s friend, were arrested for armed robbery early on Friday, Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha of Tembisa police said.

The two accosted a 22-year-old woman on her way to work and robbed her of her cellphone at gunpoint.

Later the woman noticed the teenager in the street. She stopped a passing police patrol and informed them of his presence.

The teenager was arrested and informed police that the firearm was in possession of his alleged accomplice in Phomolong.

The police went to Phomolong where they found the man with a 9mm Star pistol in his possession.

Both were arrested for armed robbery. The 23-year-old would also be charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.

They would appear before the magistrate’s court in Tembisa, Ralidzhivha said.

Acting station commander Director Lemogang Nonyane warned the public not to walk the streets alone, especially in the early morning and late at night. – Sapa
