Durban motorist shoots hijacker

A Durban motorist shot a hijacker on Sunday night when a gang pounced on him, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain Debbie O’ Brien said several armed men had attempted to hijack a man in Sandhurst Road, New Germany, at about 9:30pm.

”The hijackers shot the man and he then opened fire on them and wounded one of the hijackers,” said O’ Brien.

”When police arrived at the scene, they found a man lying on the side of the road and a red Toyota Corolla nearby.”

On further inspection, they found this was the wounded hijacker.

Both the hijacker and victim were taken to separate hospitals. Police later established that the Corolla had been hijacked in Phoenix.

It is unclear how many suspects there were.
