Several dozen children were hospitalised after a rampaging zebu bull escaped from an abattoir on the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar and ran amok in a nearby school ground, reports said on Monday.
The bull, described as completely crazed by onlookers, fled his captors into the school, trampling everything in its path and catching several children on its horns.
Panic broke out at a Scouts meeting in progress at the time, prompting a stampede that caused further casualties.
Thirty-one children were treated for their injuries in hospital following the incident in the Itaosy district of the Malagasy capital, Antananarivo, at the weekend.
Madagascar, the world’s fourth-largest island, is located off the coast of Southern Africa, opposite Mozambique.
