Restaurant manager charged with indecent assault

A Johannesburg restaurant manager has been charged with indecent assault after allegedly having sex with a street child at the weekend, News24 reported on Tuesday.

The man, who may not be named, apparently offered to pay the 16-year-old boy to have sex with him.

Melville Residents Association safety coordinator, Jonathan Dubb, said members of the public allegedly saw the man approach a street child in Melville on Sunday night.

”We immediately notified the police and followed the man to his house in Westdene,” he said.

The police summoned the man to the door and he was naked. Dubb, who was at the scene with the police, said the man did not want to allow them to enter his house.

”He said he had a secret in his shower.”

”We then found the undressed street child in the shower,” he said.

The boy apparently signed a statement that the man paid him for sex.

Captain Theresa van Niekerk confirmed that the man had been arrested ”for committing an indecent act”.

The man appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Regional Court on Monday morning on charges of indecent assault.

State prosecutor Carina Coetzer said he had been formally charged in court on Monday.

He will appear in court again later to apply for bail. – Sapa
