Man attempts to set fire to SABC building

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to set fire to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) building in Auckland Park on Monday, the public broadcaster said.

It is alleged that the suspect poured petrol around the entrance of the building and tried to set it alight. He was immediately arrested, the report said.

In a radio interview, police spokesperson Aubrey Kgomo said: ”The situation is terrible.

”We tried to interview the man and he said to me that he had a quarrel with some of the management of SABC.

”He said he had a project that went wrong with the management and does not work for the SABC anymore,” said Kgomo.

The SABC said its security officers were investigating and they would release a statement shortly. — Sapa
