South Africa’s third-largest cellphone operator, Cell C, which has been operating for five years, reported on Tuesday its first annual profit.
Cell C, which seeks to dominate the lower end of the local cellular market, said in a statement that operating profit surged R321-million in 2007 from an operating loss of R349-million in 2006.
Subscriber numbers grew 44% to 4,8-million active subscribers as Cell C benefited from its strategy to focus on the lower end of the market. — Reuters
