Zuma mulls Mauritian appeal

Within hours of a Mauritian court’s refusing Jacob Zuma the right to stop South African prosecutors from securing evidence against him, lawyers for the African National Congress president were planning to challenge its ruling, reports said on Tuesday.

Zuma’s lawyer, Michael Hulley, told the Mercury that he would consult Zuma’s Mauritian legal team ”with a view to launching an appeal” against Mauritian Supreme Court Judge Rehana Mungly-Gulbul’s decision.

”We take note of the judge’s decision, but we respectfully disagree with it,” said Hulley.

Attempts by the South African Press Association to get comment from Hulley were unsuccessful.

On Monday, an application by Zuma to be involved in a case about documents that could be used as evidence against him by the National Prosecuting Authority was rejected by the Mauritius Supreme Court. — Sapa
