The Robben Island Museum’s CEO and two other senior officials have been suspended, the museum’s council said on Friday.
”The decision to suspend the three came as a result of a forensic report on key operations of the museum,” said a statement.
Seelan Naidoo was appointed CEO with immediate effect after the museum’s chief executive officer Paul Langa, chief operating officer Denmark Tungwana and chief finance officer Nash Masekwameng were suspended.
”Pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against the three, and in order to ensure continued and effective management of the museum, Naidoo has been appointed as interim CEO,” the statement read.
Naidoo’s brief was to ”comprehensively restructure” the institution. He had previously been involved in the restructuring of the Market Theatre and Windybrow Theatre in Johannesburg and the National Arts Council, where he served as CEO.
Arts and Culture Minister Pallo Jordan highlighted the need for a comprehensive restructuring of the Robben Island Museum in his budget vote speech this year. The museum’s council said it endorsed Jordan’s view. – Sapa
