Angry commuters burn buses in Brits

A group of about 300 angry commuters burnt down two buses and damaged another 10 in Brits because the buses had run out of diesel, North West police said on Thursday.

”The commuters became angry and started throwing stones at the buses,” said Superintendent Koos Degenaar.

Two buses were set alight and burnt down at a Brits taxi rank at about 7pm on Wednesday.

”Ten other buses were damaged with broken windows and so on. The damage is estimated to be about R250 000.”

The police dispersed the crowd by firing rubber bullets. No arrests were made and nobody was injured.

Degenaar said the buses belonged to Thari bus services and apparently did not have diesel to run on.
