President Thabo Mbeki is currently visiting ordinary households in the rural community of Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported on Saturday.
This forms part of the presidential imbizo programme aimed at enhancing interaction between the government and the community.
With Mbeki on his visit are the ministers of health, public works, minerals and energy, and public service and administration.
Many of the households Mbeki has visited live in extreme poverty, experiencing problems such as inadequate access to healthcare, lack of infrastructure and difficulty in obtaining grants.
The imbizo will continue in the surrounding areas of Mount Ayliff and Mount Frere. — Sapa
