Accused in Jeppestown shooting admits involvement

One of the 12 accused in the Jeppestown robbery shoot-out trial has admitted to his involvement in the crime, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported on Monday.

Twelve people, including four policemen, died in the shoot-out after the Honeydew Pick n Pay branch was robbed in 2006.

Nkosinathi Mchunu, on trial in the Johannesburg High Court, said he surrendered at the Jeppestown house where the robbers were dividing their spoils.

This emerged during the closing arguments of the trial.

Accused Kungalani Mobaso said that he knew nothing about the robbery, and said he only went to the house to collect money for his taxi business

Another accused, Sizwe Dlamini, said he was hijacked and had been held hostage in the house.
