White and Jones to resume double act

South Africa World Cup-winning coach Jake White is to link up again with Eddie Jones in the new year after agreeing to take on a fresh consultancy role with English side Saracens.

Former Australia coach Jones, now the director of rugby at Saracens, brought in White to assist on defence ahead of last weekend’s 23-6 Premiership win over Worcester.

Jones was previously brought in as a consultant by White during the Springboks march to World Cup glory last year.

And the duo were back in harness, with White the senior partner, as coaches of the Barbarian side narrowly beaten 18-11 by Australia at Wembley on Wednesday.

”I will be back at Saracens for a week in January and a week in February,” said White.

”I am consulting to Saracens to help Eddie. It is a new voice. It is a tough competition in the northern hemisphere and it is nice to have a new voice, some new ideas,” he also told reporters after Wednesday’s match.

”I am just glad I can add some value to a club like Saracens for Eddie.”

Jones added: ”We obviously get on well and we complement each other in the way we do things.

”He will have a look on what we are doing and seeing where we can improve. He worked specifically on our defence last week but it could be in other areas. It is about adding value to our team.” — AFP
