Matriculants urged to sign up for supplementaries

The department of education has encouraged matriculants who might have failed in 2008 to apply for supplementary exams before the January 21 deadline.

A statement released on Monday encouraged learners to register for the supplementary exams at the school or province where they wrote last year’s exams.

“Candidates who wish to apply for supplementary examinations in terms of admission requirements to higher education or work, need to submit documentary evidence in this regard and complete a registration form available at the district office.”

The candidates will then have to obtain admission letters for the exams from the district office where they made their applications. The letters will be available from district offices on February 6.

An ID book as well as the letter were required for a matriculant to be allowed into the exam room.

“Supplementary examinations will be conducted at cluster centres that are linked to the matriculant’s original centre from February 17 to March 23 2009.”

Learners who have not yet received their results due to irregularities in their exams, will be allowed to provisionally register for the supplementaries.

The timetable for supplementary examinations can be obtained from the department’s website www.doe.gov.za.
