The African National Congress’s lead in the national election took a 0,13% dip over lunchtime on Thursday as more results from Gauteng polling stations became available.
At 1pm the ruling party was still comfortably in the lead, with 64,84% over the Democratic Alliance’s 17,94% in the national vote.
The ANC has already garnered 3,9-million votes, with the DA standing on 1,08-million and the breakaway-ANC faction the Congress of the People on 488 980 (8,10%).
Still struggling were the Inkatha Freedom Party on 171 683 votes (2,84%), the United Democratic Movement with 73 479 votes (1,22%) and the African Christian Democratic Party, who has been endorsed by 46 637 voters (0,77%).
The Freedom Front Plus was holding steady on 0,98% and the Independent Democrats on 1,43%.
In the Western Cape the DA dropped slightly to 52,4%, with the ANC on 29,07% of the vote.
Although more than a million votes were still outstanding in the province, voting tendencies in the Western Cape strongly indicate that DA leader Helen Zille will take over the provincial administration.
At 1pm voter turnout nationally was 77%.
