Four killed in Cape Town hostel fire

Four guests died and seven others were injured in a hostel fire in Cape Town on Friday, said Western Cape police.

The fire broke out at 5am at the Two Oceans Backpackers on Loop Street, Superintendent Andre Traut told the Mail & Guardian Online.

Rescue workers found four bodies inside the hostel. Seven guests were being treated at local hospitals, said Traut.

The hostel was full to capacity at the time of the incident.

”We’re now looking at the circumstances around the incident and to determine whether someone was at fault,” said Traut.

Traut said on Friday morning that the cause of the fire was still unknown.
