Medihelp denies merger with Liberty

Medihelp Medical Scheme has denied that it is merging with Liberty.

This, following a report to this effect in Wednesday’s Business Day newspaper.

”This is not true and unfortunately misprinted,” the company said in a statement.

”As one of the few self-administered schemes in South Africa, Medihelp concluded the 2008 financial year with a solvency ratio of 35,85% and a net surplus of R190,8-million, well above the required solvency level of 25% set by the Registrar of Medical Schemes,” it said.

Medihelp Medical Scheme said it wished to assure all its stakeholders — members, brokers and staff — that it was not merging with Liberty Health or any other party in the near future.

Medihelp is the third largest medical scheme in South Africa, responsible for the medical cover of more than 218 000 members. — Sapa
